Sunniva Brynnel from county Bohuslän and Andreas Jansson from county Västergötland form a sparkling duo performing folk music from their respective home areas in the South West of Sweden. Also in their repertoire are original tunes inspired by their musical heritage, composed on the couple’s travels in Sweden and the US.

Poetic Swedish bridal marches mix with fiery polskas in minor, good old-timey waltzes and harmonies with a more contemporary flavor.

Sunniva Brynnel tours and records internationally and has been touring the US extensively since 2016 as part of groups like folk sextet Night Tree, as well as as a solo performer. She performs in Sweden with groups like Blå Dager and Sunniva Brynnel & Patrik Wingård Duo. Sunniva has performed on Swedish national television and her original music has been frequently broadcast on Swedish national radio as well as on radiostations across the globe. She has released four albums as a leader, spanning folk, improvised music and jazz.

Andreas Jansson grew up in county Västergötland but moved to Rättvik aged 15 to study Swedish folk music. He plays traditional tunes on acoustic guitar and occasionally also on the accordion. Aside from performing music, he has a PhD in music analysis with artificial intelligence and has worked as a music researcher for Spotify.

Apart from performing, the duo also offer workshops in Swedish folk tunes on request. Sunniva has been teaching privately for over a decade, and has been faculty at Northeast Heritage Camp and Maine Fiddle Camp, US. She enjoys teaching improvisation, composition, tunes, songs, accordion and Swedish cow calling, kulning, on a regular basis.
