Sunniva Savery on The Rocketship
Sunniva Brynnel (SE) – voice and accordion
Emil Savery (DK) – piano/keyboards/organ
Medley of excerpts, live at Ängsbacka, Sweden, Dec 2017:
When I heard the way you sang, I felt the Yin to my Yang
And whenever you wanna sing, I wanna be the Yang to your Yin
‘Cause when I look into your eyes, you teach me how to fly
You’re an angel right from the sky –
Love and freedom for you and I
Sunniva Brynnel comes from a lineage of seven generations of female musicians. She has let her travels be directed by her musical interests; for a year she immersed herself in Irish folk music at DIT Conservatory of music and Drama in Dublin, Ireland. After that, she studied jazz and Swedish folk music at Birka Folk High School in Sweden, and went on to do a BA Jazz (1st class honors) at Leeds College of music in England. She is currently in the final year of her masters in contemporary improvisation at the New England Conservatory, Boston, US.
Sunniva has toured and recorded internationally and is currently touring extensively in the US. You might hear her singing jazz, improvised music or folk music, as well as playing accordion for dancing, in folk music ensembles or something else – as long as it’s fun!
In 2017, she was awarded Albin Hagström Minnesfonds scholarship for accordionists through the Royal Academy in Stockholm.
Emil Savery has been playing the piano since his early childhood. He studied the Hammond organ at Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen from 2012 until 2015. In 2013, he won the national Danish jazz competition, “Ung Jazz”, with the progressive duo, Crunch House (drums and organ). Since 2016, Emil has spent most of his time traveling around The Music World, occasionally landing on Earth in order to invite Music World hitchhikers onboard on his Rocketship.
